Sola Fide Fellowship

A Classical Christian Academy for Homeschoolers

We are a Christ-centered, classical academic community for homeschoolers.

Sola Fide Fellowship (SFF) is a classical academy for homeschoolers desiring to participate in academic classes, build virtuous friendships, and grow in Christian faith.

At its very core, education is an act of faith. As parents and educators, we trust by faith that our children will receive an education of both the mind and the heart. We desire for our students to grow in their faith and love for Christ through engagement with the good, the true, and the beautiful. We encourage them to love what is lovely in the hope that they will ultimately encounter Jesus Christ and be a light in this world.

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” Philippians 4:8

The ultimate purpose of a Christian classical education is the pursuit of virtue. Virtue requires grit and fortitude. It does not come naturally. Therefore, an education aimed at virtue is one that instills forbearance and encourages the student to do more than he thinks he can do. At Sola Fide, we encourage our students to do the hard things.

“ A pupil from whom nothing is demanded which he cannot do, never does all he can.” - John Stuart Mill.

“For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.” 2 Peter 1:5-7

“The perfect form of friendship is that between the good, and those who resemble each other in virtue.” - Aristotle

Class Head Mentors & Class Descriptions

LaQueta Morgan is a homeschooling mom with a decade of experience in classical Christian education. She is a CiRCE Certified Master Teacher pursuing the arts of mimetic and Socratic forms of educating. Jesus declared, “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes unto the Father except through me.” Therefore, she believes that the purpose of education is to draw us closer to Jesus who is the ultimate source of truth, goodness, and beauty. She loves used bookstores, old downtowns, and patriotic gatherings.

In the high school class, students will engage with the Socratic method for the purpose of learning to think logically, engage truthfully, and write persuasively. Additionally, we read the Great Book of Western Culture for the truth, goodness, and beauty that they reveal. Other cultures have books of wisdom, but our American heritage is founded on the a Judeo-Christian heritage, so we focus on the best of what that tradition has to offer us. “The one who knows nothing of his origins it more than merely lost, he is, in the most profound sense, cut off from himself. He knows not who he is.” Louis Markos. For those reasons, this class is focused on reading deeply and engaging with ideas that help to inculcate virtue. Furthermore, students practice developing both sides of an argument before choosing their position. Thereby, they are “prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.” I Peter 3:15.

“In a republican nation, whose citizens are to be led by reason and persuasion and not by force, the art of reasoning becomes of first importance.” Thomas Jefferson

Debbie Friedel

Junior High

Debbie Friedel is the homeschool mom of seven children. Her husband Bryan built their home in the mountains outside Inkom, where they live with their two youngest sons. She enjoys cooking, reading aloud, making greeting cards, and showing hospitality. Looking back over twenty-six years of homeschooling, it has been a rewarding and joyful adventure that she would choose to do again. Abraham Kuyper said, “There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is Sovereign over all, does not cry, Mine!” Debbie believes that education is a domain that is Christ’s, and she is committed to helping students see Him in all areas of study.

In the Junior High class students will be using Following Narnia Volume 2 from the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) which utilizes the final books in the Narnia series. Students will be reading these books for their writing assignments and for our literature discussions in class. Finished writing projects are presented in class as a means to practice beginning speech skills. The study of Latin is introduced through Orberg’s Lingua Latina, considered by many to be the very best Latin curriculum available. Students learn Latin from Latin. They begin reading immediately and experience the reward of reading a latin story with each new chapter. of body text

A good myth, like a good map, enables the wanderer to survive, perhaps even to flourish, in the wilderness. To this end, classical education, like Hebrew education, carefully preserves the best myths within its tradition and insists that each new generation of students learn these myths, imprisoning them

Rachael Martinez

Ages 8-10

Rachael is a homeschooling mom of three children. She has been homeschooling for the past eight years. She has a BS in Biology and a BS in Nursing. She directed and coordinated a Christian homeschool co-op in New Mexico for five years. Rachael enjoys hiking, reading, traveling, spending time with family, and filling in the holes in her own education by teaching her children. Her goal for this class is to expose children to the beauty and majesty of God’s world through art, music, science, literature, fellowship, and friendship. She will strive to encourage kids to approach learning these subjects with a questioning mind and a humble spirit to better equip them to use their knowledge to better know and glorify the Creator.

This class encourages students to wonder at God’s creation. Science and nature studies, using the Good and Beautiful curriculum, provide hands-on experiences and opportunity for conversations. We will use art appreciation in picture, poetry, and classical music to discover how we as humans can create beauty that glorifies our Lord. This class will expose students to classic children’s literature using a read-aloud format. Students will be encouraged to follow along in their books as the stories are read aloud, but will be allowed to color or play with quiet fidgets during this time depending on their learning style/preference. Narration exercises will be used to solidify skills of listening comprehension, vocabulary expansion, and story sequencing. We will work to memorize some of his poems and practice speech skills by doing recitation in front of the class both collectively and individually. Students will be introduced at a leisurely pace to Latin vocabulary and simple sentences, preparing them for further Latin studies in the upper school grades.

“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” - Psalm 19:1

Etiquette & Seminar Days

Flourish Divider

Once a quarter, SFF students participate in our etiquette and seminar days.

Our etiquette program is designed to teach social grace. Students are introduced to and practice a variety of social protocols. The heart of etiquette is learning to love ones neighbor. Many social anxieties can be overcome when we practice considering the needs of those around us.

During the seminar portion of the day, we invite local business owners, artists, scientists, politicians, pastors, linguists, etc. to speak to our students about a topic they are passionate about. These seminars are interactive and usually include hands-on activities, followed by a question and answer time. The purpose of these seminars is to expose our students to people who have pursued a God-given love, talent, or professional calling.

Nature Hikes & Community Outings

Beauty experienced out of doors refreshes the soul, encourages community, and grows friendships. Therefore, we partake in nature together as the weather permits. These day hikes are planned twice a month in the Autumn and Spring. In addition, we actively practice extending the love of Christ in our community through service projects such as visiting the Veterans Home to sing hymns and distribute handmade cards.
